Pedersen leads Annika by two; Lexi, Lydia with work to do

In BELLEAIR, Fla., Danish player Emily Kristine Pederson took the lead in The Annika with a 5-under 65. She had an impressive six birdies in her first 10 holes, but struggled in the wind during her final seven holes at Pelican Golf Club. Even with the challenges, Pederson’s 65 puts her at 12-under 128, the lowest 36-hole score in the tournament’s history.

Japan’s Minami Katsu is two shots behind with a 67, followed by Jasmine Suwannapura of Thailand, who finished 4 shots back with a 65.

Pederson, coming off a successful Solheim Cup, is currently No. 80 in the Race to CME Globe and needs to advance to the top 60 to play in the next week’s CME Group Tour Championship in Naples. Both she and Katsu, who is currently ranked No. 78, are in a good position to advance.

Meanwhile, Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko are facing a tougher battle. Thompson, who has been winless on the LPGA Tour for over four years, is currently No. 88 in the Race to CME Globe and six shots behind. Ko, last year’s season finale winner, has had a disappointing year and came into the event at No. 101 on the points list. She needs a strong performance to advance, but shot a 69 on Friday and is eight shots out of the lead.

Jin Young Ko, a two-time winner this year, had a 69 and is part of the large group four shots back.
