In a surprising turn of events, the master of back take successfully claimed the Bellator bantamweight championship by finishing his opponent with a rear-naked choke.
Now, Patchy Mix has rightfully earned the title after a dominant performance against champion Sergio Pettis at Bellator 301.
Following a strong first round, Mix (19-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) continued his domination in the second round. He swiftly mounted a rear position over Pettis (23-6 MMA, 5-1 BMMA), taking full control of the match. Utilizing his skills, Mix executed a clinical rear-naked choke, forcing Pettis to tap out at the 1:51 mark in the co-main event held at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
Exclaiming his dominance, Mix stated, “I’m the best in the world” after securing the victory. This win comes after Mix’s failed attempt to claim gold from then-champion Juan Archuleta in September 2020. Since then, Mix has won six consecutive fights and entered Friday night’s event as the interim champion at 135 pounds after winning the promotion’s Bellator grand prix.
For Pettis, the loss marks his first defeat in Bellator after a five-fight winning streak since leaving the UFC in 2019. The event also featured other significant matches, the details of which can be found below.
