Check out the latest news and rumors surrounding the Mets and Yankees‘ potential target, Juan Soto

Nov. 8, 11:30 p.m.

During the GM Meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona, San Diego Padres GM A.J. Preller discussed various topics, including the potential trade of Juan Soto.

“We really like our position player group,” Preller told MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell.  “Juan is obviously a tremendous offensive force, a big part of our club. I think we saw last year, as the season went on, the impact he had on our lineup.”

Preller also mentioned that negotiations for a long-term contract with Soto might take a backseat to addressing pitching needs this offseason, given the recent contract situations of Michael Wacha and Blake Snell.

While the Padres aim to retain Soto, they are still open to trade inquiries, with reports indicating that the Yankees have expressed interest.

Furthermore, Soto’s representative, Scott Boras, disclosed that discussions with the Padres for the upcoming season have taken place and revolved around Soto’s importance to the team’s lineup.

Preller highlighted that signing Soto to a long-term deal will significantly impact the team’s roster both in the short-term and long-term.

Andy Martino reports that preliminary discussions involving a Juan Soto trade have occurred between the Yankees and Padres.

Martino suggests the potential inclusion of veteran player Anthony Rizzo in a trade deal, citing the Padres’ desire for left-handed bats to strengthen their team.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan deliberated on the future of Juan Soto with the San Diego Padres, emphasizing the possibility of the team reconfiguring its farm system through a trade involving Soto.

Passan also proposed the Mets as a potential landing spot for Soto due to their ability and willingness to secure long-term contracts for elite players like Soto.
