What a start for Jordan Love and Christian Watson in the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions. The Green Bay Packers’ quarterback and receiver visualized something big and Coach Matt LaFleur almost changed the first play call, but decided to trust them.
On the first play, Watson caught a 53-yard pass from Love, setting up the game’s first touchdown. This was the beginning of a 29-22 upset win for the Packers against the NFC North-leading Lions.
Love’s performance against the Lions proved that he’s starting to feel confident in his role as the Packers’ quarterback after taking over from Aaron Rodgers. His game included completing four deep throws, three touchdowns, and career highs in Total QBR and first-down rate.
Watson’s performance was equally impressive, catching five passes for 94 yards and a touchdown after struggling with a low catch rate in previous games.
Defensively, Rashan Gary stood out with three sacks, Jonathan Owens recorded a season-high 12 tackles and a touchdown, and rookie tight end Tucker Kraft scored his first NFL touchdown.
This game demonstrated Love’s potential as the Packers’ long-term answer at quarterback. Watson expressed confidence in Love’s abilities and the team’s potential for improvement as a whole.
