Optional Practice?!? Bednar Had A Reason For Holding Back

Family Sports was packed for Colorado Avalanche practice on a Sunday afternoon, following their defeat the previous night. Fans were expecting to see the players being put through the wringer by Jared Bednar, but that didn’t happen as the coach had wanted.

Bednar described the day as “miserable” and expressed the frustration and anger felt by the team after their disappointing performance.

Despite wanting to push the players to their limits, the practice had to be changed to optional due to several players being injured and requiring treatment ahead of their next game.

The lineup for Monday night’s game against Seattle was in question, with players such as Mikko Rantanen, Josh Manson, Sam Girard, and Logan O’Connor dealing with injuries.

Nathan MacKinnon took part in the optional practice, and when asked about the usage of the word “quit” by Bednar and teammates, he responded with a video link.

Bednar emphasized the need for more effort and consistency from the team, especially in special teams, where they have been underperforming.

Special Teams Nightmare

The Avalanche have struggled with shorthanded goals against and missed powerplay opportunities, with Bednar attributing it to decision-making and a lack of mental attitude in the powerplay.
