Novak Djokovic wins record seventh ATP Finals title after defeating Jannik Sinner to cap stunning year for world No. 1

Novak Djokovic triumphed to secure a historic seventh title at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. The Serbian tennis ace defeated Jannik Sinner with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-3.

Securing the title was the cherry on top of an exceptional year for Djokovic, topping off his grand slam victories at the Australian, French, and US Opens. As a result, the 36-year-old now begins a record-extending 400^th week at the top of the world rankings.

In a post-match interview, Djokovic expressed his pride in the remarkable performance, stating, “Playing Sinner tonight in front of his home crowd and the way I finished the tournament and finished the season is amazing. I’m very, very proud of the performance.”

Earlier in the tournament, World No. 4 Sinner had beaten Djokovic. However, the Serbian star showcased his prowess in the final match against Sinner, proving to be the superior player.

Djokovic’s unwavering performance on the court was evident as he clinched the opening break and proceeded to win the first set with clinical precision. His dominance was further underscored by a superb serving performance, comprising 13 aces and a 91% first-serve point win.

The match, lasting an hour and 43 minutes, came to an end with a double fault from Sinner, solidifying Djokovic’s triumph and marking his seventh victory at the season-ending tournament.

Looking ahead, Djokovic expressed his lofty aspirations for the following year, stating, “You can win four slams and Olympic gold, let’s see. I have always the highest ambitions and goals, that’s not going to be different for the next year, that’s for sure.”

Djokovic remains resolute in his commitment to the sport, emphasizing his motivation to compete at the highest level, especially in major tournaments. With the Paris Olympics and a crowded summer schedule looming, he has no intention of retiring as long as he continues to defeat the best young players.

At the Australian Open in January, Djokovic will pursue his 25th grand slam title, aiming to further extend his all-time record.
