Nick Kyrgios and Piers Morgan have a long history of exchanging jabs on social media, but now the tennis star has announced that the pair will engage in a highly anticipated showdown on the UK host’s television show. What’s being promoted as “the interview nobody thought possible” is set to stun audiences as Kyrgios has been interviewed by the British TV personality. Teasers of the conversation were shared online and the full interview is scheduled to premiere on Friday.

The feud between the two began in 2016 after Kyrgios was eliminated in the fourth round at Wimbledon by Andy Murray. Morgan called Kyrgios “a petulant little brat” and publicized the sentiment further on social media: “Never seen an Australian sulk like Nick Kyrgios. Normally ferocious, proud competitors. Embarrassing to watch… Put your toys back in your pram and go home.”

Kyrgios responded by telling Morgan to “eat a d***”. The clash between the two has continued over the years, most recently in 2022 when Morgan again took to Twitter to criticize Kyrgios. This time around, the mood seems to have shifted as Morgan has landed an interview with Kyrgios. In the interview, the 28-year-old Australian talks about his mother being held at gunpoint, his family experiencing racial abuse, and how he’s often portrayed as the villain on the tennis court, which he adores.

“You feel like the bad guy in a movie, the main villain,” Kyrgios says in a clip shared on his Instagram. “Every time I go out onto the court, I knew that I could spoil somebody’s day … I love it.”

In a teaser video that was released, Kyrgios remarks that he and Morgan share similarities as the English entertainer questions him about some of his controversial decisions. It’s being hailed as a “tell-all interview” and social media erupted with excitement, expressing that it’s a crossover they never expected to see. There’s also speculation that Morgan may be in for a roasting this time around.

Kyrgios in serious doubt for next year’s Aussie Open

The Aussie tennis star is understood to be in major doubt for next year’s Australian Open after having missed most of 2023 due to a knee injury and a more recent wrist injury. Kyrgios stated earlier this month that progress was being made but the ‘stars would need to align’ for him to play at the Open.

Australian Open director Craig Tiley mentioned that a decision regarding his fitness would be made closer to the date. “We have spoken to Nick, and he obviously wants to do the best he possibly can to give him the best chance to play in January … Nick’s position will be determined closer to the event,” Tiley told reporters earlier this month.

“I think whatever gets him the best chance to progress during the year … we have wildcard exchanges with the French and Wimbledon, so there’s an opportunity to really help an Australian player not just have one tournament to go into but several, so we’ll weigh that all up to make a decision – we’ve got wildcards to do that.

“Whether he’s playing, whether he’s doing something else, Nick will be here in January and to get him to play will be great, but we’ve got to take it as it comes and he’s got to take care of his health … because he’s not just got January, he’s got the entire year (ahead) too.”
