SANTA CLARA — Nick Bosa, one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers, humbly acknowledged that his memory might not be the best.

The San Francisco 49ers have not lost a regular-season game since October 23, 2022, back in Week 7 of the 2022 season. However, on Thursday, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year admitted that he had forgotten the team’s protocol for their first day back from a loss.

“It’s been a long time since we lost,” Bosa admitted. “Actually forgot what the routine was when it comes to team meetings and all that stuff. It was tough, we kind of had to eat it for an extra day. We were kind of dreading coming in here for meetings.

“Last season, in the regular season, we didn’t have a loss for a long time, and it happens, so we have to bounce back.”

It has been nearly a full calendar year since Bosa returned to team headquarters with a regular season loss. Additionally, the 49ers defense has not allowed an opponent to rush for 150 yards or more in even longer.

In their recent game against the Cleveland Browns, the 49ers defense, known for their stingy rushing yards allowed, gave up 160 yards on the ground. Over the past 26 games, including the postseason, Bosa and the defense have only allowed eight teams to gain 100 or more rushing yards.

Only the Atlanta Falcons, who gained 168 yards in Week 6 of the 2023 season, and the Browns have rushed for 150 or more yards during that time.

While the entire locker room was not looking forward to watching the game film of their loss to the Browns, they have already utilized these sessions as teaching moments for improvement. Their goal is to avoid making the same mistakes again.

“When you think you played bad, it’s never as bad as you think,” Bosa reflected. “And when you played great, it’s the same thing — you weren’t as good as you thought. It wasn’t quite as bad, but definitely not ideal.”

The 49ers have an extra day to prepare for their game against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football at U.S. Bank Stadium. Bosa and his teammates will be working to achieve an outcome that will allow them to once again forget the routine after a regular season loss.
