Buffalo Sabres: Eric Comrie Sidelined with Injury
In a significant blow to the Buffalo Sabres, goaltender Eric Comrie will be sidelined for “at least a few weeks” due to a lower-body injury.
Comrie sustained the injury during the second period of a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Friday, following an impressive save.
Sabres’ general manager Kevyn Adams confirmed the news, stating, “He had an MRI this morning, looks like he’s going to miss some time. You’ve got to see over the next couple of days how it settles down and everything, but he’ll be in that situation where it’s probably at least a few weeks.”
With a record of 1-1-0 in three games this season, Comrie has showcased his talents with a commendable 2.45 goals-against average and an impressive .914 save percentage.
Meanwhile, the Sabres remain without the services of goaltender Devon Levi, who is nursing a lower-body injury. Despite participating in an optional morning skate on October 21, Levi has yet to join team practices. However, he has been engaging in individual skating sessions and may potentially return to regular practice on Tuesday.
Regarding Levi’s progress, Adams expressed optimism, stating, “Devon had a good day yesterday, a good day today. But he hasn’t been able to practice and he’s not ready to play, so we don’t want to put him in a situation where he’s backing up. As long as he continues to be in a good place, we have a day off on Monday, then he can join us for a full team practice on Tuesday, and he should be ready to go by Wednesday.”
Levi currently holds a 1-3-0 record, boasting a 3.26 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage.
In the absence of Comrie and Levi, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will take on the starting goaltender role for the Buffalo Sabres’ upcoming game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday (1 p.m. ET; ALT2, MSG-B, SN). Luukkonen will be supported by Devin Cooley, who has been summoned from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.
