In a moment of triumph on Moving Day at the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Fla., eight-time LPGA Tour winner Nelly Korda achieved the 20th ace of the 2023 LPGA Tour season.
The Olympic gold medalist made a hole-in-one on the par-3 8th hole at Tiburón Golf Club, using a 9-iron to hit the ball 148 yards. This was Korda’s first ace in her seven-year LPGA Tour career and only the second hole-in-one of her life. She explained that she had been setting the goal of making a hole-in-one for the past 14 years, making her achievement that much sweeter.
After her accomplishment, Korda described the shot and her reaction, expressing her excitement at finally reaching her long-held goal. She also mentioned how a $20,000 donation would be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of her ace, as part of the CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude. This charitable giving program turns aces into donations, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000 to the hospital. Korda’s hole-in-one raised the 2023 donation total to $400,000, making the moment even more special for her.
Additionally, Korda emphasized the significance of being able to contribute to such an important cause and how it added meaning to her achievement on the golf course.
