Jake Paul endeavors to secure the title of boxing world champion but is willing to redirect his focus to MMA upon PFL’s call.
Paul (7-1) is currently set to battle Andre August (10-1-1) in an eight-round cruiserweight showdown on Dec. 15 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Fla. The fight will headline MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects IV and will be available as part of the standard DAZN subscription package.
Last August, Paul secured a victory over Nate Diaz by unanimous decision in a 10-round fight. He managed to knock down the former UFC star in the fifth round, but Diaz bounced back. Last month, Diaz’s Real Fight Inc. released an official-looking poster for a Dec. 15 boxing rematch with Paul, which Paul’s team immediately denied.
When asked about the situation, Paul stated, “I think they’re just begging. Pretty desperate, I guess. They want to make money but are not actually willing to make things happen. We’re ready to venture into MMA by the end of 2024, offering a $10 million prize, which is more than he’s ever made for an MMA fight – ever. He’s practically asking for more money while drunkenly posting random stuff, which makes him look foolish.
“I can’t understand what they’re trying to do or say, but this is the fight game. Everyone talks a big game, everyone makes a fuss, but no one actually follows through. I aim to change that and bring transparency to these negotiations, unafraid to take on anyone, anywhere, anytime.”
Paul is prepared to have a rematch with Diaz in the MMA arena. Although Paul would likely be the underdog, he is doubtful that Diaz would accept the fight, “Yeah, 100 percent. I’m going to start throwing knees, kicks, getting back to my Ohio Wrestling roots, shooting takedowns. I genuinely believe he knows it would be a really tough fight for him, and I think that’s the thing for him, where he’s thinking, ‘Do I risk my whole MMA reputation by giving this kid a chance here?’”
