Muhammad Mokaev ‘very happy’ to fight ranked Tim Elliott at UFC 294, sees weakness in grappling

ABU DHABI – Rising UFC flyweight star Muhammad Mokaev is thrilled to finally have the opportunity to face a ranked opponent.

Despite being undefeated, Mokaev has struggled to climb the ranks quickly due to the lack of higher-ranked opponents in the division.

Mokaev (9-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) will finally get his wish as he takes on the experienced Tim Elliott (19-12-1 MMA, 8-10 UFC) in Saturday’s featured prelim of UFC 294 at the Etihad Arena. The main card will be broadcast on pay-per-view.

In an interview with MMA Junkie during media day, Mokaev expressed his happiness about finally facing a ranked opponent. He also recalled the challenges he faced in getting recognized by the top 15 fighters and praised Elliott for his willingness to fight him despite not being ranked at the time.

Mokaev highlighted Elliott’s grappling skills but pointed out a weakness in his positional control, leading to a higher number of takedowns but fewer finishes.

Elliott’s unconventional fighting style doesn’t concern Mokaev, who believes his own unique style will make for an intriguing matchup. Mokaev acknowledged Elliott’s experience and expects a tough fight, but remains focused and motivated to perform at his best.
