MLB agent brings strong pun game to Cody Bellinger, Cubs reunion talks
Scott Boras, the high-profile agent representing former Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger, displayed his witty charm as he discussed the prospects of a Cubs reunion.
Boras, renowned for his colorful commentary on free agent clients, addressed the media at the General Manager meetings in Arizona this week, expressing his loquacious views on Bellinger’s free agent status.
“Chicago got the comforts of a full ‘Belli,’ so they’re going to have to loosen their belts to keep Bellinger,” he wittily remarked.
Bellinger, whose 2023 statistics showcased his remarkable performance with the Cubs, declined the team option on his deal, making him a hot commodity in the free agent market.
Boras disclosed that there is “broad interest” in Bellinger and expects a high asking price, touting Bellinger as the “young jewel” in the outfield and first base market.
Bellinger’s impressive feats led to him winning Silver Slugger awards for the Cubs this season, following a string of less successful years with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Cubs, along with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees, have shown interest in signing Bellinger.
