History was made at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Missy Elliott became the first female hip-hop artist to enter the Hall of Fame, marking the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. She gave an emotional speech, expressing her gratitude to her fellow inductees.

The ceremony faced some challenges due to the absence of certain inductees, but surprise A-list guests were brought in to ensure an amazing show. The event began with Sheryl Crow, who was finally getting inducted herself. She performed alongside Olivia Rodrigo, Stevie Nicks, and Peter Frampton. L.L. Cool J inducted DJ Kool Herc, one of hip-hop’s true originators. Herc was joined onstage by his sister, Cindy Campbell. Chaka Khan received the Musical Excellence award and dedicated most of her speech to praising Jazmine Sullivan and honoring her former Rufus bandmates. George Michael, Andrew Ridgley, and several artists performed covers of his hit songs. New Edition performed in tribute to the Spinners, and the Soul Train segment paid homage to Don Cornelius. Kate Bush, although not in attendance, was inducted by Big Boi and St. Vincent covered her iconic song. Al Kooper’s induction was presented through a video montage of his career, and Willie Nelson was finally recognized for his contributions to country music.
