Mike Modano is finally back ‘home’ in Minnesota, 30 years after North Stars left — and with 5 kids in tow

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In the summer of 1993, Mike Modano received a letter informing him to report for Dallas Stars training camp by Sept. 10. Little did he know that this move would eventually lead him back to Minnesota, a place he once considered temporary. On May 22, with his wife and five children in tow, Modano landed in Minnesota and quickly adapted to his new surroundings. His children immediately joined local sports teams and developed a love for the state. Modano, who has been working for the Wild since 2019, reflected on how life has changed for him over the years, but he still retains his youthful appearance and energy.

Modano’s wife, Allison, explained that he is the more fun and playful parent, always keeping their children entertained. She marvels at his ability to maintain his childlike innocence and enthusiasm, which she believes contributed to his success as a professional hockey player. Modano is equally amazed at being back in Minnesota, raising his family there. He enjoys watching his son play hockey and participating in his daughter’s birthday parties. Modano reflects on his early years in Minnesota when he had little responsibility apart from playing hockey and enjoying the city’s nightlife.

Modano’s love story with Allison began when they were set up on a golf outing. Initially skeptical, Modano soon realized that Allison was the daughter of an acquaintance, Joe Micheletti, whom he had known since he was 18. They hit it off and have been together ever since. Now, Modano is raising his family in Minnesota and appreciating how his life has come full circle. He is grateful for the unexpected turns that have brought him home to Minnesota.

The Modano children have inherited their parents’ athletic abilities and are thriving in various sports. Jack and Kate, the oldest twins, have grown fond of hockey since their move to Minnesota. The younger children, Luca and Quinn, are eager to start their hockey journey as well. Despite their ages, the Modano kids excel in basketball, soccer, and golf. The family shares a deep love for sports, and their children’s passion only reinforces their identity as a sports-oriented family.
