Michigan football without starting left tackle LaDarius Henderson at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Michigan football, already dealing with the suspension of head coach Jim Harbaugh and the dismissal of linebackers coach Chris Partridge, will now be without its starting left tackle Saturday against Maryland (Fox, 12:10 p.m.).

LaDairus Henderson, an offensive lineman, was listed “out” in U-M’s pregame availability report. The only other player listed on the report is Danny Hughes, a senior on special teams and backup running back. Henderson’s absence is significant for the No. 2 Wolverines (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten), as they have been relatively healthy this season.

The Arizona State transfer initially provided backup for the left side but was moved when coach Sherrone Moore moved Karsen Barnhart to the right and decided to enlist Stanford transfer tackle Myles Hinton on the right side.

Last week, U-M had 241 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Penn State, a testament to the strength of the offensive line.

The team faced a three-game suspension from head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Big Ten for violating the league’s sportsmanship policy.

Henderson had this to say, “As offensive linemen, actually doing it and seeing it work and just seeing the fruition of it, it’s amazing. That’s what we want to do. We want to smash the ball and that’s exactly what we did. The plan was to smash, and we indeed smashed.”

On the field, much of the success resulted from the left side, where they ran the ball for a total of 111 yards and four first downs.

It’s uncertain if U-M will revert to its original starting lineup. There is also the option of senior tackle Trente Jones or backup Jeff Persi to protect the quarterback’s blind side.
