Miami Hurricanes bench Tyler Van Dyke for Emory Williams vs. FSU

Shakeup in the Miami Hurricanes lineup for the upcoming game against the Florida State Seminoles as veteran quarterback Tyler Van Dyke gets benched in favor of freshman Emory Williams.

The decision to switch comes as Van Dyke, the 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year, struggles through a career-low performance, throwing 10 interceptions in his past four games, resulting in a 1-3 record for Miami.

Head coach Mario Cristobal revealed that the staff is constantly evaluating ways to enhance the team’s performance. While he did not confirm the starting quarterback for the upcoming game, he did not rule out the possibility of a quarterback competition in the practices leading up to the game.

During an interview on WQAM’s The Joe Rose Show, Cristobal expressed concerns about the team’s passing game regression despite Van Dyke’s impressive 67.2 percent completion rate this season, along with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In comparison, Williams, in his one start this season, led Miami to victory over Clemson with a 75 percent completion rate, one touchdown, and one interception.

As the situation develops, stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
