MIAMI, Florida – The 2023 FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup is set to begin in Indonesia this Friday, with four teams from Concacaf – United States, Mexico, Panama, and Canada – all vying for the championship title.
Mexico, the 2023 Concacaf Men’s Under-17 champions, will kick off their campaign in Group F on Sunday, November 12, facing familiar opponents Germany. This matchup holds special significance as Mexico famously defeated Germany 3-2 in the 2011 semifinals on home soil.
With a rich history as the U17 World Cup winners in 2005 and 2011, Mexico will continue their 15th U17 World Cup appearance with matches against Venezuela on November 15 and New Zealand on November 18, led by top scorer Stephano Carrillo (8 goals) and Best Player Award winner Gael Alvarez.
Meanwhile, the United States, runners-up of the 2023 CMU17, aim for a top finish in Group E, where they will compete against Burkina Faso, Korea Republic, and 2001 U17 World Cup champions France. Keyrol Figueroa, the top scorer with seven goals, will spearhead the U.S. attack in Indonesia.
Canada, who reached the semifinals at the 2023 CMU17, will debut in Group B against four-time U17 World Cup runners-up Spain, followed by matches against Uzbekistan and Mali, with center back Lazar Stefanovic anchoring the team.
Lastly, Panama, making their third U17 World Cup appearance, will compete in Group A against Morocco, host nation Indonesia, and Ecuador. Kevin Walder, the team’s leading scorer in the CMU17, will lead the Panama attack in Indonesia.
