Mets non-tender five players including Daniel Vogelbach

The Mets have made their decisions ahead of the non-tender deadline, opting to decline contracts for Daniel Vogelbach and four other players. The other players include right-handed pitchers Jeff Brigham, Sam Coonrod, and Trevor Gott, as well as Luis Guillorme.

However, the Mets also reached a one-year agreement with DJ Stewart to keep him on the team, with the reported contract worth $1.38 million. Additionally, all other players, including Pete Alonso, Drew Peterson, Joey Lucchesi, and Drew Smith, will be tendered a contract.

It may not come as a surprise that Vogelbach was non-tendered, as his performance in Queens left much to be desired. Since his acquisition in 2022, Vogelbach failed to deliver the power the team had hoped for, and his struggles continued throughout the 2023 season. In his time with the Mets, Vogelbach hit 19 home runs and drove in 73 runs while slashing .241/.359/.415. He was projected to receive $2.6 million in 2024.

According to the non-tender deadline rules, players on each team’s 40-man roster who are not under contract and have fewer than six years of major league service time must be tendered a contract each offseason. This includes players who are due raises via arbitration. As the 2023 non-tender deadline approached, the Mets had 10 players they needed to make decisions on.
