Mets’ Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso named 2023 Silver Slugger finalists

With the conclusion of the World Series, the MLB end-of-year awards are set to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

This Thursday, MLB unveiled the finalists for the 2023 Silver Slugger awards, and the Mets have two representatives among them. Both Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso made the cut in their respective positions.

Lindor has a strong chance of winning, as he excelled both offensively and defensively as one of the top shortstops this season. Despite a slow start, he thrived in the heart of the Mets’ lineup.

The 29-year-old achieved a rare feat, becoming the first Met since Carlos Beltran to achieve a 30-30 season with 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases. Furthermore, he scored 108 runs, hit 33 doubles, drove in 98 runs, and recorded a .806 OPS, his highest since 2019.

Lindor faces stiff competition from Xander Bogaerts, Trea Turner, and Dansby Swanson as he vies for his third career Silver Slugger award.

Alonso, on the other hand, has formidable adversaries in MVP contenders Matt Olson and Freddie Freeman.

Nevertheless, the towering first baseman had an impressive season of his own, ranking third in the league with 46 home runs and second with 118 runs batted in. Although his batting average dipped slightly, he maintained a solid .821 OPS across 154 games.

MLB will reveal the award winners on Thursday, November 9th.
