The newly appointed president of baseball operations, David Stearns, is making waves in the organization with the Mets bringing on board Andy Green and Kris Gross to their front office, according to multiple reports.
Green, who previously served as the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs under manager David Ross, declined another position within the organization after Ross’ departure and opted to join the Mets in a senior role for player development, as reported by the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
Gross, on the other hand, is set to take on the role of vice president of amateur scouting for the Mets, following a successful 12-year tenure with the Houston Astros, where he held the position of director of amateur scouting for the past three seasons, according to a report from Joe Doyle.
Green spent four seasons as the Chicago Cubs’ bench coach and was previously the manager of the San Diego Padres until his dismissal in September 2019. In addition, he had a brief stint with the Mets as a player in 2009. Gross, on the other hand, played in the minor leagues for the Cubs before transitioning to a scouting career with the St. Louis Cardinals and eventually joining the Astros’ scouting staff.
Notably, Gross significantly contributed to the Astros’ draft success, overseeing the production of 58 drafted players, the highest among all organizations, during his time with the team. His expertise and experience are expected to bolster the Mets’ scouting operations moving forward.
