Elvis Merzlikins made a stunning 41 saves as the Columbus Blue Jackets came from behind to win 4-2 against the Ottawa Senators on Friday. Patrik Laine, Dmitri Voronkov, Adam Fantilli, and Boone Jenner all scored for Columbus, as they claimed their second victory in three games, boosting their standing in the Metropolitan Division. Johnny Gaudreau and Zach Werenski each contributed two assists for the Jackets.
Brady Tkachuk and Claude Giroux managed to find the back of the net for Ottawa, who are currently in last place in the Atlantic Division. This was Joonas Korpisalo’s first game against his former team, where he spent the first 7 1/2 years of his career. Despite the Senators outshooting Columbus 14-2 to start the game, they couldn’t maintain their lead.
Tkachuk and Giroux both scored in the opening minutes of the first period, but Columbus made a comeback, scoring four unanswered goals. Laine’s power-play goal, followed by Voronkov’s goal, tied the game before Fantilli and Jenner secured the win.
Columbus will be facing Boston on Sunday, while Ottawa will host Seattle. For additional NHL updates, visit AP NHL.
