Hendersonville girls’ tennis secured its fifth consecutive team state championship this past weekend. What factors contributed to the team’s success this season?
For me, it all comes down to divine intervention. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of such an exceptional team. The timing of my enrollment at the school couldn’t have been better. Growing up alongside these talented girls and receiving guidance from the same coach has been instrumental in our success. Playing alongside friends you’ve known for years, and genuinely enjoy spending time with, makes the game of tennis even more enjoyable. It wasn’t just about achieving victory, but about expressing our love for the sport through our competitive spirit.
Where do you feel like the team has grown the most this season?
We’ve significantly strengthened our team. Our fifth and sixth players have demonstrated outstanding skill and determination. Their unwavering commitment to winning every match, without dropping a single game, has really elevated our performance. They would fight for hours on end to achieve a flawless score. I believe our fifth and sixth players truly shone this season.
How did you get into tennis?
It was actually Eliza (Perry) who introduced me to tennis. My mom used to play, and one day she was participating in a round-robin at the country club. Eliza encouraged me to join in, and from that moment on, I fell in love with the sport.
What do you love the most about playing tennis?
The camaraderie with your doubles partner and the emphasis on sportsmanship are what I love most about tennis. It’s a game that encourages respect for your opponent while allowing you to indulge in the sport you adore.
As a senior, what lessons has playing tennis and high school sports taught you?
I’ve learned that with determination, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. It has taught me to approach every challenge with confidence and to believe in my abilities, even when facing tough opponents.
