McDavid out 1-2 weeks for Oilers with upper-body injury

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers may have to manage without their star player, Connor McDavid, for the next 1-2 weeks due to an upper-body injury he suffered during their recent 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

During the game, McDavid was absent from the ice for the final 4 minutes and 20 seconds of the third period, and he remained on the bench during overtime. He appeared to be experiencing discomfort on his left side while making a rush up the ice before heading to the bench.

Despite his injury, McDavid managed to contribute two assists to the team’s efforts. In the five games played this season, he has accumulated eight points, including two goals and six assists.

Oilers coach, Jay Woodcroft, expressed his initial thoughts on the injury, stating, “It didn’t appear to be anything serious to me as I watched during the play. We’ll have more information tomorrow [Sunday].”

Prior to the start of overtime, McDavid briefly skated on the ice. However, he ultimately decided to sit out the extra period, which resulted in a victory for the Jets, with Mark Scheifele scoring the winning goal at 3 minutes and 53 seconds.

When asked about McDavid’s absence during overtime, Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey comically replied, “I think we noticed, that’s probably the understatement of the century. 3-on-3 overtime, you’re looking for him, so we did notice, yeah.”

Before heading to the bench, McDavid played for a total of 20 minutes and 48 seconds, managing a single shot on goal. Earlier in the game, he was taken down by Morrissey, resulting in a two-minute minor penalty for holding.

Woodcroft offered his point of view on the injury, stating, “I thought it was more him coming up the ice [in the third period], and something felt off for him. That’s what it looked like from the bench. But I haven’t even rewatched it yet.”
