Formerly suspended wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who recently joined the Dallas Cowboys, is confident in his ability to return to top form despite not playing in the NFL for five years. As Bryant expressed to Todd Archer of ESPN, “The sky’s the limit for me, man. I know I’m 31, but still fast, still big, still want to play football. I haven’t lost anything. [It’s] more of a prove-it-point to me. I’ve got a lot of doubters out there. It’s more of me proving to myself that I still got it.”
Bryant’s promising career was derailed by NFL suspensions due to substance abuse violations, leading him to dark places he never envisioned. However, he has worked hard to overcome those challenges. DeAndre Hopkins, Bryant’s former teammate at Clemson and current Titans wide receiver, played a pivotal role in reigniting Bryant’s passion for football by encouraging him to work out together.
According to Bryant, “I’ve got to get in football shape. I’m in shape but I’ve got to get in football shape. Football shape is different.” If Bryant can regain the form that allowed him to average 21.1 yards per catch as a rookie, the Cowboys could benefit significantly from this low-risk, high-reward addition down the stretch.
