The Manchester United team may face a setback for the rest of the year due to injuries inflicted upon duo Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez. Martinez went through a second surgery owing to a metatarsal fracture suffered in April, and Casemiro is nursing a hamstring injury that he picked up against Newcastle United. United have confirmed that Casemiro will be benched for weeks with manager Erik ten Hag suggesting that the Brazilian may not be fully fit to return before Christmas.
According to Ten Hag, “I expect some back but Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas. It’s several weeks.” United’s fixture list post-Christmas includes matches against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
Left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are expected to be reintegrated into the United squad some time after the November internationals. Malacia had knee surgery in the summer and Shaw has been sidelined since August 19 with a hamstring tear.
Ten Hag confirmed Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford were both fully fit and available for United’s Champions League group stage game against Copenhagen on Wednesday evening.
