A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the fire at Luton Airport, confirmed by the police.
The arrest of a man in his 30s was made on suspicion of committing criminal damage. He has been released on bail pending further investigations.
A massive fire erupted at London’s Luton Airport, causing extensive damage to approximately 1,500 vehicles and resulting in travel disruptions.
Over 100 firefighters worked throughout the night to extinguish the inferno in the car park. This incident led to numerous cancelled or diverted flights, affecting tens of thousands of passengers.
According to the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was ignited by a diesel car.
A spokesperson from Bedfordshire Police stated, “A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to the investigation of a significant fire at London Luton Airport car park on Tuesday (October 10).
“We are conducting a thorough and diligent investigation, exploring all possible leads as is customary after such a major incident.
“The individual has been released on bail while our investigation continues.”
The newly constructed Terminal 2 car park at the airport suffered partial collapse following the fire that occurred around 9pm on October 10. With an estimated 1,500 vehicles believed to have been damaged, a major incident was declared.
An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 passengers were impacted by 273 flights being suspended, cancelled, or diverted.
