LSU’s men’s basketball team suffered a tough loss to Dayton in the quarterfinal round of the Charleston Classic, despite leading for nearly 40 minutes. The Flyers secured a 70-67 win, thanks to a gutsy comeback and a last-second go-ahead three-pointer.
The Tigers held a slim 32-30 lead at halftime, and extended it to 15 points with under 10 minutes left in the game. However, Dayton mounted a remarkable 17-2 run to get back in the game, ultimately securing the win with a clutch shot in the final seconds.
While LSU shot above 50% as a team, they suffered eight second-half turnovers and lacked efficiency down the stretch. Jalen Reed led the team with 16 points, followed by Tyrell Ward with 12 and Will Baker with 10. Defensively, LSU struggled to contain Dayton’s top scorers Santos, Bennett, and Brea.
Though it was a missed opportunity to secure a win over a potential tournament team, the 1-2 Tigers will have to regroup and focus on their upcoming game against North Texas. This loss could impact their tournament resume, so the team will need to bounce back quickly.
