Hae Ran Ryu emerges as the victor of the 2023 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award, a splendid announcement conveyed by the LPGA Tour on Monday.

Originating from South Korea, Ryu solidified her claim to the accolade after a 12th place tie at The Annika this past Sunday.

With 893 total points leading into the CME Group Tour Championship, she boasts an unassailable 274-point lead over Australia’s Grace Kim.

“I’m deeply honored to be bestowed with the Rookie of the Year award and etch my name amongst the illustrious list of past winners. This year has been a truly unforgettable journey, and I take great pride in what I’ve achieved during my inaugural season on the LPGA Tour,” Ryu expressed in a news release. “I will be eternally grateful to my team and my ever-supportive fans for their unwavering encouragement throughout my rookie year, and I eagerly anticipate concluding the year at the CME Group Tour Championship.”

Aged 22, Ryu becomes the sixth player from South Korea to claim this honor since 2015, following in the footsteps of Jeongeun Lee, who previously achieved this recognition in 2019.

Ryu notched her maiden LPGA Tour triumph at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in September. She also garnered five other top-10 finishes and heads into the season’s final week ranked second in greens in regulation (75.7 percent) and third in birdies (314). She has amassed over $1.5 million in earnings this season.

Ryu is set to receive her Rookie of the Year award at the 2023 Rolex LPGA Awards ceremony on Thursday in Naples, Florida.
