Liverpool Faces Left-Back Injury Crisis Ahead of Busy Schedule

Liverpool has been hit with yet another injury blow during the international break as Andy Robertson suffers a suspected dislocated shoulder. This leaves Kostas Tsimikas as the only left-back option with first-team experience.

Manager Jurgen Klopp anxiously awaits the results of a scan on Robertson’s injury, hoping for positive news for the Scotland captain.

Adding to Klopp’s concerns, young talent Luke Chambers might also be unavailable. Chambers, 19, has recently been part of the matchday squad for three out of the last four games. He made his senior debut off the bench in the League Cup victory over Leicester but remained unused in the wins against Union SG and the draw at Brighton.

However, Chambers is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, forcing him to withdraw from the England U20s squad for their matches against Romania and Portugal this month.

According to Paul Joyce from The Times, Chambers suffered the ankle injury in training and has returned to Merseyside for treatment at the AXA Training Centre. Although it appears that his injury is not serious, Nat Phillips from loan club Celtic missed two weeks due to a similar problem.

If Chambers is unable to play, Tsimikas will become the sole left-back option with first-team experience. However, Klopp might consider utilizing Joe Gomez in that role as well.

Calum Scanlon, an academy defender who has been involved in pre-season, is expected to be the next in line for a call-up amidst Liverpool’s upcoming busy schedule.

Liverpool is set to play seven matches in just 29 days, starting with the highly anticipated Merseyside derby on Saturday, followed by clashes against Toulouse, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Luton, Toulouse again, and finally Brentford.

Given the demanding schedule, Klopp will undoubtedly hope to have more than one fit and available left-back.
