When Florida first faced off against LSU in football, Franklin D. Roosevelt was serving as President of the United States. In that same year, the highest grossing movie was “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing” was the most popular song. For those who haven’t guessed yet, it was 1937.
The head coach for Florida was Josh Cody, while LSU was led by Bernie Moore. Their initial encounter on the opening weekend of the college football season, on Sept. 25, 1937, resulted in a 19-0 victory for LSU, with Tigers quarterback Young Bussey scoring two touchdowns and the only successful extra point.
The following clash between the two teams took place in 1941, with LSU again claiming victory with a score of 10-7. Since 1953, the Gators and Tigers have played annually, except for a short break from 1968-70.
The record between the teams stands at 33-30-3 in Florida’s favor, after LSU was forced to vacate three wins from 2013-15. However, LSU is currently on a four-game winning streak against Florida, most recently winning 45-35 in 2022.
As they prepare for their 70th meeting, Florida is considered the underdog by 13 points in their upcoming game against LSU. Can they bounce back after a tough loss to Arkansas and upset LSU? Or will LSU continue their winning streak against the Gators?
