The Lindenwood University men’s swimming and diving team dominated the University of Kansas meet, claiming first place in every event they entered on day one. Meanwhile, the women’s team showcased their potential as strong competitors in each event.


Head Coach, Jason Owens, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Our teams performed exceptionally well in some areas and are utilizing this meet to leverage our training progress. I am excited to see how we continue to perform tomorrow!”


The men’s team showcased their speed by securing first place in the 200-yard medley relay. Swimmers Piotr Kowalczyk, Johan Cue Carrillo, Elliott Irwin, and Trevor achieved a remarkable time of 1:30.80 for their victory.


In the women’s 1000-yard freestyle, Kathryn Chaves finished third, completing the race with a time of 10:50.37. On the men’s side, Adam Szczerba secured first place with an impressive time of 9:46.82. Jaxson Bradburn closely followed in third place with a time of 9:53.77. Lance Godard and Ondrej Dusa claimed the top two spots for the Lions in the men’s division, recording times of 1:44.00 and 1:44.10, respectively.


Irwin dominated the 100-yard backstroke, finishing first with an impressive time of 51.03. His teammate, Kowalczyk, secured third place with a time of 51.46. In the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, Maja Piotrowicz claimed second place with a time of 1:06.07. In the men’s division, Cue Carrillo emerged victorious with a time of 55:63, while Mattia Giurgevich finished the race in third place with a time of 57:03.


The Lindenwood men outperformed in the men’s 200-yard butterfly event, securing the first three places of the podium. Nick Williams, Godard, and Bradburn showcased their talents, achieving times of 1:56.66, 1:56.82, and 1:57.59, respectively. Irwin also grabbed first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a quick time of 21.15, while Kowalczyk took third place with a time of 21.37.


Assistant Coach, Jonathan Reeder, praised the team’s positive performances and the overall energy, saying, “The team showed incredible spirit and determination. We will carry this momentum into tomorrow’s races and aim to continue our fast pace.”


In the men’s 1-meter diving competition, Bennet Loving, David Molina-Fregenal, and Noah Boyd secured the top three spots with scores of 292.55, 280.80, and 263.90, respectively. Piotrowicz finished second in the women’s 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.25. For the men, Jose Ochoa claimed first place with a time of 1:55.99, while Godard finished in third place with a time of 1:58.46. Additionally, Szczerba, Bradburn, Giurgevich, and Dusa secured first place in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay. Maddie Lynch achieved a noteworthy time of 27.56, claiming third place in the 50-yard butterfly event.


Lindenwood University’s swimming and diving team will return to action on October 21st for day two of the University of Kansas and the University of South Dakota dual meet.
