LeBron James set a new NBA record on Monday, marking yet another milestone in his legendary career.
During the Los Angeles Lakers’ 138-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, James officially became the player with the most minutes played in NBA history, surpassing the previous record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of 66,297 minutes.
Following James on the minutes played list is Karl Malone, third with over 62,700 minutes, while Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Paul, and Kevin Durant round out the top five.
Not only did James break the all-time regular-season minutes record, but he was also already the leader in the postseason with 11,654 playoff minutes, significantly ahead of Tim Duncan’s 9,370. He’s also the NBA’s third-highest all-time scorer, with 39,060 points to his name, surpassing Abdul-Jabbar’s record last season.
At nearly 39 years old, James is in his 21st NBA season and sixth with the Lakers, still maintaining impressive stats so far, averaging 25.5 points, eight rebounds, and 6.6 assists. Even with two decades of experience, he continues to play close to his career average of just under 34 minutes per game.
Despite his individual achievements, the Lakers fell to the dominant 76ers, led by Joel Embiid’s 30-point triple-double. However, James had a noteworthy performance with 18 points and five assists, shooting 8-of-12 from the field.
As his career is rapidly approaching its end, James remains a force to be reckoned with on the court. His records for minutes played and points scored are likely to remain untouched for years to come.
