Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell addressed the media on Monday following their victory over the New Orleans Saints and provided updates on the team’s injuries.
Frank Ragnow
Campbell began with an optimistic update on the status of center Frank Ragnow, who left the game with a knee injury in the second quarter. “I feel like more than anything, we got good news,” Campbell stated. “But that doesn’t mean that he’s going to be available this week.”
Campbell’s comments after the game hinted at the seriousness of Ragnow’s injury, but he also expressed cautious optimism. It seems likely that Ragnow will miss the upcoming game while recovering from his injury.
Ragnow is a crucial part of the Lions’ offensive line, being a two-time Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro back in 2020. His absence will be felt, but Campbell expressed confidence in Graham Glasgow as a solid backup.
Alex Anzalone
Additionally, Campbell mentioned linebacker Alex Anzalone, who missed the Saints game, may have a chance to return for the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
“I think there’s a chance (he plays). Yeah. I do,” Campbell said.
Anzalone has been having a standout year, but Campbell commended the rest of the linebacker group for stepping up in his absence against the Saints.
Alim McNeill
The one concerning injury seems to be that of defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who may be unable to play this week due to nagging injuries.
“Mac’s a little banged up,” Campbell said. “We’ll know more on him probably in I would say a couple of days. So, there’s a chance he may not be up (this week) either.”
McNeill’s absence would pose a significant challenge for the Lions, as he has been performing exceptionally well this season. If he’s unable to play, the team may look to Levi Onwuzurike or Isaiah Buggs for support.
