For the third consecutive season, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater have secured spots in the NCAA Division III Football Championship, according to the WIAC SPORTS and St. Norbert Athletic Communications.
UW-La Crosse (9-1) secured an automatic bid by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, while UW-Whitewater (9-1) claimed one of four at-large bids.
UW-La Crosse, making its 14th NCAA appearance, will face University of Minnesota Morris (7-3) in the first round, with the winner playing either Aurora University (Ill.) (10-0) or Coe College (Iowa) (9-1) in the second round.
Meanwhile, UW-Whitewater, making its 19th NCAA championship appearance, will host Bethel University (Minn.) (8-2) in the first round, with the victor meeting either Wheaton College (Ill.) (9-1) or Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) (9-1) in the following round.
St. Norbert College’s football team will also be competing in the 2023 Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl, making this their first-ever bowl game in the program’s 89-season history. They will face Monmouth College (8-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has also secured a spot in the Culver’s Isthmus Bowl and will face Augustana College (Ill.) on Nov. 18 at the Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium in Sun Prairie, Wis.
In other sports news, three men’s teams and two women’s squads from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference have qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
The men’s race will feature University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, UW-Stout, and UW-Whitewater, while the women’s race will include UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse. Individual participants from other schools will also compete in the national championship, hosted by Dickinson College (Pa.).
