Kerr’s favorite Iguodala memory fittingly golf-centric originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Steve Kerr and Andre Iguodala have shared countless memories on the basketball court over the years. With four NBA championships and numerous records and accolades, the Golden State Warriors have accomplished a great deal under Kerr’s leadership, with Iguodala playing a vital role in their success.
The recent retirement of the veteran forward officially announced his retirement after a 19-year NBA career, marked by four championships, a Finals MVP award, an All-Star nod, and two All-Defensive selections. Kerr was asked about his favorite Iguodala story before the preseason finale against the San Antonio Spurs, and it revolved around their shared love for golf.
Kerr shared, “When we won the title in 2015, during that run, one of my best friends is a member at Augusta [National Golf Club]. Andre loves golf, and so my friend, Jeff, said ‘Hey, tell Andre and Steph [Curry] if we win the title we’ll go to Augusta.’ Andre is such a golf nut.”
He continued, “So, the buzzer sounds, Steph throws the ball up in the air, and Andre catches it. Within 15 or 20 seconds after winning the NBA championship, Andre comes over to me and says, ‘We’re going to Augusta!’ I was surprised because I didn’t expect him to think about golf in that moment, but it showed his love for the sport. That story has always stuck with me because he made the sacrifice to come off the bench that year, then became a starter, won Finals MVP, and finally got to go to golf heaven. It was a great experience.”
Iguodala and Curry, both avid golfers, often spend their offseasons on the course, so it’s no wonder Iguodala was eager to hit the links after a demanding playoff run. A round at Augusta National, one of the world’s most renowned golf courses and home to the Masters Tournament, is a dream come true for many golf enthusiasts and the perfect way to celebrate the first of the Warriors’ four championships.
