KENT – The Kent State men’s basketball team suffered a couple of second-half downfalls in their game on Sunday evening. The College of Charleston utilized its 3-point shooting to claim an 84-78 victory over the Golden Flashes. Charleston’s 13 3-pointers, with 21 points from Reyne Smith and 16 from Frankie Policelli, contributed to their win.
Coach Rob Senderoff stated, “There are a lot of championship-level players on their roster, and they competed that way, especially down the stretch.”
The Cougars, who were shooting 24% from behind the arc, raised their game by shooting 13-of-32 on 3s in the match.
KSU led 41-35 at halftime, but in the second half, the Cougars hit five 3-pointers, setting off a 17-0 run.
The game saw lead changes and the Cougars went on a 12-4 run in the second half. Kent’s Jalen Sullinger scored 23 points, but Charleston’s strong plays sealed their win.
VonCameron Davis led KSU’s bench, scoring a season-high 19 points, reflecting on the team’s performance.
Senderoff emphasized, “We have to get better as a team, and that’s the bottom line.”
KSU will continue to host games at home this week, facing Shawnee State at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Sullinger voiced, “We have to find a way to toughen games out.” Senderoff sees these early games as stepping stones for when Mid-American Conference play begins Jan. 2, emphasizing the need to learn and execute effectively.
