Kansas State is NCAA.com women’s basketball team of the week after upsetting Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes faced a significant defeat from the Kansas State Wildcats, marking the Wildcats as the NCAA Team of the Week due to their second straight victory over the highly-ranked Hawkeyes. This win also left the Wildcats with a perfect 4-0 score for the season.

On Nov. 16, the Wildcats secured an impressive 65-58 win over No. 2 Iowa, making it the second instance in program history that they have beaten the Associated Press’ second-ranked team. Their previous win against such high rankings dates back to 1982 when they defeated Old Dominion.

Senior center and All-American candidate Ayoka Lee was a standout player, scoring 22 points, with 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Following a 12-0 run in the final three minutes, Kansas State succeeded in their upset against Iowa. Lee’s performance was crucial in securing this remarkable victory for the Wildcats.

Defensively, Kansas State limited Iowa to 36.1 percent shooting and a disappointing 2-of-21 from the 3-point range. Iowa’s standout player, Caitlin Clark, managed to score 24 points, but it was not enough to secure a win over the determined Wildcats.

Continuing their triumphant streak, Kansas State clinched a dominant 75-57 win over Wisconsin, further solidifying their position with a surge to No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.
