Kansas State forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin suspended indefinitely after arrest following alleged bar fight

Kansas State basketball player Nae’Qwan Tomlin has been indefinitely suspended by head coach Jerome Tang after his arrest on Sunday at a bar in Manhattan, Kansas. The suspension was announced on Monday.

Tomlin was taken into custody shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday at a bar in Aggieville, the primary entertainment district near Kansas State’s campus, according to a report from the Topeka Capital-Journal. He has been charged with disorderly conduct and brawling or fighting. The details of the incident leading to the arrest remain unclear. Tomlin was released after posting bond.

“I have indefinitely suspended Nae’Quan Tomlin for not living up to the expectations we require of our players,” said Tang in a statement, as reported by the Kansas City Star’s Kellis Robinett. “Although he is not with the team, he is still part of this family and we will do what we can to support him as he moves through this process.”

Tomlin was a standout player for the Wildcats last season, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds. His impressive performance helped lead the team to the Elite Eight. Prior to joining Kansas State, Tomlin played three seasons at the junior college level. Despite not playing basketball in high school, he excelled at Chipola College in Florida, leading them to two NJCAA National Tournament semifinals. Tomlin also had a brief stint testing out the NBA Draft before returning to the Wildcats.

The Wildcats had a successful season last year, finishing with a record of 26-10, their best in a decade. However, their journey to the Final Four was cut short after a defeat to Florida Atlantic in the Elite Eight.

As for Tomlin’s future with the Wildcats, Tang did not provide a specific timeline for his potential return. The team is scheduled to host an exhibition game against Emporia State on Wednesday, followed by their season opener against No. 21 USC in Las Vegas next Monday. In the preseason polls, Kansas State received 13 votes in the Associated Press poll and was predicted to finish sixth in the Big 12 conference by the coaches.
