Julianna Pena criticizes the upcoming women’s bantamweight title fight at UFC 297.
Following Amanda Nunes’ retirement and forfeiting of her title, Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva are set to compete for the vacant title at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Jan. 20.
Former champion Peña, who was initially expected to be in the title fight, expressed her disappointment at not being able to compete due to injury.
Peña criticized the fight, describing it as a “horrible interim title fight” on “The MMA Hour.” She also promised her fans that she will be coming back for a title fight, adding that she expects to face the winner of the upcoming bout.
Peña noted the growth of her former fellow contestant, Raquel Pennington, in her fighting ability, acknowledging her as a formidable and capable fighter.
She also hinted at preferring to face Mayra Bueno Silva following recent tensions between the two, claiming it would make for a more entertaining buildup to the fight compared to facing Pennington.
