Journalist Dean Jones believes that Jota is the type of attacker that Tottenham will look to sign in January, suggesting that the club might postpone signing a number nine until next summer.
Recent reports have discussed the possibility of Jota reuniting with Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.
This includes a report from Football Insider on October 8, which explained that the winger has been sidelined at Al-Ittihad since his move to the Saudi Arabian club this summer.
According to the report, Al-Ittihad has exceeded their limit of foreign players, and Tottenham is keeping an eye on Jota’s situation.
There were even suggestions last week from SportMediaSet (via Fichajes.com) that Celtic is interested in signing Jota on loan.
However, TEAMtalk explained a couple of days ago that Celtic is not the only club interested, as Tottenham would face competition from them. Jota himself is reportedly open to returning to Celtic.
Should Tottenham pursue a loan move for Jota?
Jones suggests that signing Jota, especially on loan, would be a smart move for Spurs. He believes that Tottenham could rebuild their forward line next summer to strengthen their chances of competing for the title in 2024-25.
When asked about the Jota transfer rumors, Jones told GiveMeSport: “If it is possible on a loan deal, I think it’s a no-brainer for Postecoglou. He has worked with Jota before and wants more players of that caliber in his frontline.
“I would compare Tottenham to Arsenal last season, when they were in the running for the title. There’s nothing wrong with being contenders at a time when no one expected it. But the following season is what matters the most.
“I think Tottenham is about a year behind Arsenal in terms of growth. They can stay in the top-four battle without rushing to sign a striker who might not be the perfect fit.
“Bringing in Jota on loan and evaluating long-term purchases seems like a more sensible approach to me.”

While Jota’s connection with Postecoglou could work in Tottenham’s favor, it’s uncertain if he would prioritize regular game time, which may not be guaranteed at the North London club.
