DOHA, Qatar – As dusk settled on Saturday, the third round of the Qatar Masters came to an abrupt halt, leaving Jorge Campillo in the lead with one hole remaining to play.
When play resumes on Sunday, Campillo will seek his fourth European tour victory, having previously triumphed at the 2020 Qatar Masters and the Kenya Open earlier this year.
Ahead of Campillo on the leaderboard is Sami Valimaki, hailing from Finland, who currently holds a three-round score of 67, putting him at an impressive 15-under par. Campillo, at 6 under for his third round, is the only player above Valimaki.
Valimaki, who secured his only title in Oman in 2020, still has the opportunity to earn a PGA Tour card for the next season since he ranks among the top 10 players on the European tour’s DP Race to Dubai standings. This prospect greatly motivates him as he stated, “I have tomorrow to go and then two more weeks (of the season). I need to get one win to make it to the PGA Tour. That’s my goal.”
In third place is Robert MacIntyre, just one shot behind, and he currently sits at 2 under with two holes remaining to play.
At the clubhouse, Sean Crocker (67), Scott Jamieson (66), and Nacho Elvira (66) are tied at 13 under.
