Joost Luiten loses it after getting three clubs stuck in tree

You could say that several of Joost Luiten’s golf clubs tried to make like a tree and leave. 

The Dutch golfer let his frustration get the better of him when he flung his driver into a tree on the ninth hole during the final round of the DP World Tour Championship.

The club never came down and attempts using other clubs to knock the driver free led to those getting stuck in the tree. 

It was a scene that felt like it was right out of a “Curb Your Enthusiasm” episode. 

The tournament’s social media team captured video of the odd situation as Luiten, his caddy and others attempted to get the clubs down.

At one point a man in a blue shirt climbed up into the tree and started shaking it in order to free the driver. 

Eventually, Luiten’s frustration returned as he kicked his golf bag at one point as well. 

“I tried to get it out by throwing some other clubs at it and [two] other clubs got stuck up the tree so I couldn’t get them out,” Luiten said, according to Golf Digest. 

Eventually, the 37-year-old moved on without and played with just 11 clubs the rest of the hole.

A tournament volunteer managed to get the clubs unstuck and back to the golfer in time to use them on the back nine. 

His eight-month-pregnant wife Melanie-Jane deserved an assist for getting the clubs back to her husband. 

Luiten seemed to feel the incident summed up the way he had played in the tournament.

He finished 3 over to lose by 18 shots during the season-ending tournament being held at Jumeirah Estates in Dubai. 

“Lost it and threw my driver, and it got stuck up a tree,” Luiten said. “That sums up my week nicely.

Nicolai Hojgaard went on to win the tournament.
