In a thrilling victory to secure the Bellator welterweight gold, Jason Jackson felt the presence of his late friend, Anthony Johnson, during the fight almost a year after his unfortunate passing. Johnson, who was a former UFC title challenger, passed away in November 2022 after a battle with a serious illness. Jackson, who had been part of the Kill Cliff FC squad alongside Johnson, paid tribute to his friend after defeating Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 301 to claim the 170-pound title by saying, “Rest in peace, ‘Rumble.’ I love you.”
Jackson’s journey to becoming Bellator’s 170-pound titleholder was not without its challenges. A former participant in Dana White’s Contender Series and “The Ultimate Fighter,” he participated in various regional appearances in LFA, Titan FC, Victory FC, and other promotions before finding his stride under the Bellator banner.
“It means everything to me and my family because now, this creates an opportunity to make a better living for my family,” said Jackson. “It just makes all the non-believers into believers. I have a belt to show my country that yes, Jason Jackson can be champ anywhere he goes. It’s just a matter of time before he becomes the best welterweight on this planet.”
