JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones has been taken into custody on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery, as confirmed by jail records.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested Jones, booking him into the Duval County Jail at 6:03 p.m. ET, charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm, a first-degree misdemeanor. A scheduled court appearance is set for 9 a.m. ET Tuesday.
In response to the situation, the Jaguars released a statement saying, “We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
In Florida, a first-degree misdemeanor can carry a penalty of up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Other potential consequences may include court costs, restitution, probation, treatment, and/or community service.
Jones has been sidelined for six games, including the last four, due to a right knee injury this season. He has managed to accumulate five catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns in just three games.
