Islanders drop fifth straight in 4-1 loss to Oilers as listless offense continues

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — In Kris Knoblauch‘s debut as Oilers coach, Leon Draisaitl lit up the ice with a goal and three assists, while Connor McDavid added a goal and an assist, propelling Edmonton to a 4-1 victory over the Islanders on Monday night.

Zach Hyman and Evander Kane also contributed to Edmonton’s win with goals, and Stuart Skinner made 32 saves. The Oilers secured their first home win of the season and clinched their second straight victory after enduring a four-game losing streak.

On the opposing side, Mathew Barzal scored for the Islanders, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. The Islanders have now lost five straight games, including four consecutive losses in regulation.

Knoblauch took over as coach after the Oilers’ underwhelming start, and his debut had a rocky start. The Oilers gave up an early goal just 40 seconds into the game, but they quickly rallied to turn the game in their favor.

Edmonton tied the game with less than six minutes remaining in the first period, and then seized the lead with two power-play goals in the third period, securing their well-deserved victory.

After the game, the Islanders announced that defenseman Adam Pelech was unable to play due to a lower-body injury.
