SAN FRANCISCO – Andre Iguodala’s decision to join the Warriors a decade ago not only brought a highly skilled wing player with All-Star credentials but also added an NBA cachet that the team had never possessed before.

In 2013, Iguodala signed with the Warriors, marking a significant turning point for a franchise that had historically struggled to attract top-tier players, beset by financial constraints and a lack of success. Prior to Iguodala’s arrival, the team had only made the playoffs three times in 19 seasons.

The acquisition of Iguodala sent a clear message to the league that the new ownership, led by Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, was committed to building an elite team. Iguodala’s reputation as a critical thinker and his decision to choose the Warriors over more lucrative offers from elsewhere further solidified the team’s credibility.

Over the course of his eight seasons with the Warriors, Iguodala played a pivotal role in the team’s success, helping them reach the NBA Finals six times and securing four championship rings, including the 2015 Finals MVP award.

Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Iguodala’s impact, stating, “He’s one of the main reasons we’ve got those four banners hanging up. He was a foundational piece of what has been one of the great runs in NBA history.”

Iguodala’s decision to join the Warriors was influenced by several factors, including his appreciation for the roster under then-coach Mark Jackson, his admiration for Stephen Curry, and the business opportunities offered by the Bay Area.

Under Kerr’s leadership, Iguodala’s versatility and selflessness were crucial to the team’s success. He willingly came off the bench in the 2014-15 season, setting a tone of unselfishness and team-first mentality that ultimately led to a championship and Iguodala being named Finals MVP.

Without Iguodala’s presence and impact, the Warriors may not have been able to attract other notable free agents like Shaun Livingston and Kevin Durant. His departure last season left a void that Chris Paul now fills as the team’s new sage.

Despite his limited playing time in his final season, Iguodala’s on-court contributions and ability to elevate his teammates were undeniable. Kerr praised his intelligence, defensive prowess, and his ability to create opportunities for Curry and Klay Thompson.

“Andre was just special,” Kerr added.

Iguodala’s legacy with the Warriors is cemented, and he will undoubtedly be honored with a statue at Chase Center.
