Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams expressed his frustration after Monday night’s 26-14 loss to the Lions. He stated that he was at a loss for words regarding the team’s poor offensive performance, emphasizing his frustration as one of his main emotions.
Josh Jacobs, the team’s running back, didn’t have much more insight to offer. Although he scored the team’s only offensive touchdown during the game, he admitted that he didn’t know what the Raiders needed to do to improve their offense.
Inevitably, the discussion of offensive struggles falls on the team’s quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who had a difficult night in Detroit. Garoppolo’s performance included completing only 10 of 21 passes for 126 yards, throwing an interception, and being sacked six times. While Garoppolo’s teammates refrained from singling out any specific position for improvement, he took responsibility for his own performance and acknowledged the need to play better.
Garoppolo humbly stated, “You have good days and bad days. Today was a bad day, there’s no sugarcoating it. It is what it is. So, I’ve just got to play better. Myself, I have to play better. A bunch of little things that will solve a lot of problems. It starts with me. We’ve got to be better, and we will be.”
Halfway through this season, the Raiders have experienced more bad days than good ones. Monday night’s game provided little reason to be optimistic about an immediate turnaround. While the Raiders may make some moves before Tuesday’s trade deadline, any significant changes to personnel and offensive strategies will likely have to wait until the offseason.
