We’ve Reached “Cupcake Week” in the SEC
We’re heading into the penultimate week of the regular season in college football, commonly known as “cupcake week.” It’s a week filled with non-conference matchups, with a sprinkle of conference games mixed in.
I’ve coined it cupcake week since most teams are facing weaker out-of-conference opponents. But there’s one exception to that trend – the New Mexico State Aggies.
New Mexico State made a bold move, traveling to Jordan Hare Stadium to take on the Auburn Tigers, who paid them a whopping $1.85 million to play. With the spread for the game at -26.5 in favor of Auburn, the Aggies nearly pulled off the upset, securing a 31-10 victory over the Tigers.
Here’s a recap of all the action from the SEC this week:
Alabama took care of business at home against Chattanooga as they gear up for the highly anticipated Iron Bowl match at Auburn next week. After a coaching change last week, the Bulldogs stepped up with a resounding win over Southern Miss, setting the stage for their upcoming game against Ole Miss.
Ole Miss bounced back after a tough loss to Georgia, securing a big win over UL Monroe at home. With the Egg Bowl on the horizon, a victory next week would give Lane Kiffin and his team a remarkable 10-win season.
Despite missing head coach Jimbo Fisher, the Aggies overcame an early 10-0 deficit to defeat Abilene Christian at home.
A beautiful sight for Georgia fans as the Bulldogs dominated Tennessee, with the final score at 38-10. Tennessee managed to score on their first drive, but it was all Dawgs from there on out.
These matchups and upsets are setting the stage for an action-packed finale to the regular season. Let’s see what powerhouse teams like LSU, Texas A&M, and more have in store for us as they look to secure a spot in the postseason.
