The highly anticipated ACC/Big 12 match-up between Georgia Tech and the University of Cincinnati just got a lot more interesting. Monday night, 7-foot Bearcat center Aziz Bandaogo was declared eligible by the NCAA just in time for the pre-holiday hardwood action. Coming from Utah Valley University and having previously played at Akron, Bandaogo found his way to Cincinnati, allowed to move due to an NCAA guideline, citing mental health.
As the sun shined bright on Bearcat basketball Monday, Bandaogo expressed his gratitude, saying, “The day I have long dreamt of has finally come. I am grateful that the NCAA has reconsidered my case and granted my immediate eligibility. I cannot wait to make my Cincinnati debut and give the program everything I have.”
Bandaogo’s addition to the rotation comes at a perfect time for Cincinnati, as the team had been short-handed with injuries and NCAA restrictions in their previous game against NKU. UC coach Wes Miller expressed his concern, stating, “If we got Vik or Ody fouled out in the second half, we’re in trouble!” Despite the team’s rebounding advantage, Miller is hopeful Bandaogo’s presence will provide the much-needed depth.
The game against Georgia Tech on November 22nd is anticipated to be an intense contest of power. With both teams having scoring power, it’ll be exciting to see how the debut of Aziz Bandaogo impacts Cincinnati and adds to the already high level of competition. Expressing his confidence in the team’s line-up and offensive capabilities, Cincinnati Bearcats forward Dan Skillings Jr. said, “There’s a lot of guys on this team that can get double-doubles and score the basketball. Any guy on this team can make the right play and go off and have a night.”
